Affordability is the basis of the Gilligans’ Garage experience.

“We want the MX-5 class to grow and we feel we can offer a great introductory package to motorsport in NZ. More cars, mean more racing.”

So why not just buy one? 

“Well, some people do, but that’s demanded they make a commitment to go racing for a few years. We feel that’s not going to suit everyone. Some people just want to have a go. They might stay, they might say enough after one day. Leasing allows this.”

Another plus of the Gilligans’ experience is that you ‘buy’ a good car at the beginning.

“Anyone who has been in motorsport can vouch for spending money badly - that is, spend money on a component for a car, it doesn't work as planned - so you spend the money again...

“Or, in the case of buying an already built car, you inherit 'gremlins' from the car's former owners.

“We all have our own ideas on how something can be built, and often things are built to a budget, 'patched up' or put together poorly in an attempt to save some money.

“If you've ever bought a bad car - you know what we're on about!”

Gilligans’ cars are based on hand-selected road cars that are stripped down and rebuilt completely; the photos here show something of the process and the quality of workmanship and finish. They have brand-new components and a bespoke 'Gilligans' designed roll cage.

“We have built our cars to an extremely high standard and we maintain them to our standards, offering full support to clients if required.

“Added to this, is the value of a quality build and support. All the cars are newly painted white - an immaculate 'blank canvas' for your sponsorship livery or wrap.”
